My apologies for the very late reply. You probably don’t need to know now, but my implants are UTM. That’s not a popular choice now though.

I am very glad I chose UTM too. I’ve just have a recurrence, and I found it early because the lump was on top on my muscle and under my skin so easy to feel. If it had been under the implant…who knows!

Good luck with whichever you choose, they do both have pros and cons!

Our doctors (or at least mine) always like to show people mid-range results so that they are not too disappointed if their own results don’t look like that. Sadly that also makes us lose hope that we can ever look okay again. I have had a good reconstruction, so I like to share what is possible. You need to know that not all reconstructions turn out bad and you absolutely can look normal again.

Good luck with your DMX. I promise it’s not as bad as we all imagine beforehand.

Thank you for showing your detailed journey. It really meant a lot to me. I just had my consult with the plastic surgeon for my upcoming Double Mastectomy in a few weeks, and all the pics he showed were traumatizing. Seeing how well your surgeries went and how normal your nipple reconstruction and tattooing was is really encouraging to me as I begin my mastectomy journey. Stay blessed.

Hi Josie. Thanks so very much for this article. Having the photos in chronological order like that is really great. I've been having a lot of trouble finding photos. My surgeon had none to show me (public hospital in Melbourne) and no implant to show me. It gives me hope for the future. Your results are fabulous. I'm having a prophylactic mastectomy as I am brca1. I'm 36yo and opted for implants. My surgery is in a few days. Did you go under it over the muscle (UTM vs OTM)? Thanks and hoping you're doing well

congratulations and thanks for sharing Josie. Thank God, my daughter and I are survivors because when I had a bilateral mastectomy I was pregnant. 20 years ago but 2 attempted reconstructions I had were horrible. Depresses me! but I don’t know where to go. I still haven’t lost hope Although I am very far from you; in Southamerica

In reply to Sofia. Hi Sofia I'm sorry, I'm not sure what you want to know. I didn't ask for anything, I listened to the options my surgeon put in front of me and chose the one I was most comfortable with. Not everyone is suitable for the same reconstruction options. Speak with your surgeon and find out what is best for you. If you are unsure, see another surgeon for a second opinion. Good luck with whatever you choose :-)

I know this was forever ago but exactly what did you ask? I want what you got lol I’m on my last 4 Chemos and mri then surgery .. I would want to get the expanders right away. I’m so scared I don’t want to be flat
